Press Release

Monday Dec 10, 2012

Karachi, Pakistan – December 10, 2012 – Pak Oasis was today recognized by the Human Rights Group of Pakistan for its remarkable achievement in extending access to safe drinking water to millions of inhabitants in Pakistan.
At a seminar entitled “Water as a Corporate Social Responsibility”, held at the Pearl Continental Hotel to celebrate International Human Rights Day, the Human Rights Group of Pakistan asserted that water was Pakistan’s most violated human right and accordingly it recognised Pak Oasis with an award for its success in this field, as well as lauding its engagement with the group in attempts to ensure the increased extension of this fundamental right across the entire population.
Mr. Soenke Ziesche, Head of UN Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, spoke about the importance of water as a human right and the United Nation’s campaign “My voice counts”, which stresses that everybody has the right to have their voice heard and to have a role in making the decisions that shape their communities, a message that was warmly received by the audience.
At the event, David James, International Trade Manager for Pak Oasis, gave a presentation on the projects effected by Pak Oasis, which was well-received by the activists, journalists and politicians present. He emphasized Pak Oasis’ commitment to human rights above and beyond their CSR, and he insisted that the reason for their success was due to Pak Oasis’ emphasis on the local, meaning “local fabrication, local employment, and local engineering”.
Brig (retd.) Masood Khan, Operations Director of Pak Oasis, discussed the realities faced on the ground by his team of zonal administrators, most of whom are, like him, retired army officers.  His team has been carrying out the delivery and management of hundreds of water filtration plants across Sindh, and he showed slides of these plants now operational across all of Sindh’s 23 districts.
